Very much anticipated by Soap&Glory lovers online, The Yule Monty Gift Set will be the star gift in Boots this week, starting on the 13th until the 19th or whilst stocks last.I know that our store alone is getting THIRTY TWO pallets of it in!!!!
This weeks highlights are all festive fun as Christmas has most definitely arrived in our house
Sparkly and festive colours have been brightening up my days at hectic days at work.Soon to be featuring on my nails is the fabulously festive Posh by Revlon that I picked up in a recent Boots haul
Ah the job of wrapping up oddly shaped present made more enjoyable by having lovely wrapping paper and using this gorgeous Merry Christmas wrap tape that my Mum recently bought for me from Paperchase.
Very much eagerly anticipated,we picked out and bought our Christmas tree on Saturday evening from our local Plants Galore, we strapped it to the roof of the car and took it home. First the lighting engineer(Mr Simples) placed the lights on the tree under the direction of the artistic director(me) then we began the extremely tedious task of stringing and tying the baubles that we had bought the previous week.Once all baubles were strung then the artistic director spent almost two hours carefully placing the baubles to create the perfect tree!To go with the eventual colour scheme of our living room(as you can see from behind our Christmas tree!),we opted for Homebase’s turquoise baubles and sparkly, shiny and matte silver baubles from Morrisons.
What festive fun have you had this week?
I was catching up on Bloglovin when I spotted Life Outside London’s Christmas Tag post and was conveniently scoffing my advent chocolate too so and decided to jump on the Christmas Tag bandwagon.
What time of year do you start your Christmas shopping?
Usually after my Mum’s birthday at the start of November but this year I started in mid October as I was fortunate enough to join Boots as a Christmas temp when they had double discount for staff members! It was an opportunity that I really couldn’t pass up!
Tell me how Christmas goes down in your house
Despite ever approaching my mid twenties,I’m still a massive child and wake up really early on Christmas morning as I’m far too excited!Usually me and Mr Simples alternate where we spend our Christmas and New Year, this year we’re due to go to his parents but unfortunately I won’t be joining him this year as they live 180 miles away and I’m working Christmas Eve and Boxing Day *sighs* so he’s going up there and my Mum,sister and our family dog are coming to our house instead.
If it’s anything like Christmas at my Mum’s it’ll involve waking up and opening Santa presents then sausage sandwiches for breakfast then getting ready and having Christmas dinner in the afternoon, this year will be the first time that I’ll be seriously involved in getting the Christmas dinner ready, I can do a roast but have never cooked a turkey before so I think we’re opting for a turkey crown instead. After dinner it’s time for family presents then the rest of the day is spent playing games/watching TV/eating our own body weight in chocolate!
Do you have any Christmas traditions?
Other than being super duper excited, not really!Though this year my mum made me my own advent calender as she’s had her own fabric one for years and I’ve always loved it so she made me my own this year and sent it down to me, I burst into tears when I opened it as I absolutely love it and know how much time and effort my Mum put into making it
What’s your favourite Christmas song?
I don’t know why but it always has been Jona Lewie – Stop The Cavalry
What do you do on Christmas Eve?
Usually I’m allowed to open one present and then we spent the night curled up on the sofa watching TV but this year I’m working until 7pm on Christmas Eve so other than food I’m not sure what plans will be
What’s your dream gift this year?
We saw this in Asda the other week and knew that the Guide Dogs had been reading our minds but we both know that a puppy is not realistic this Christmas but looking more likely for next Christmas. I’d love an iPad too but there’s no chance of me getting one either!
Describe your Christmas tree, how tall?real or artificial?how is it decorated?
We’re getting our Christmas tree at the weekend so watch this space!Definitely a real tree though
What do you wear on Christmas Day?
Last year I wore my new Santa jumper, this year I’ll probably wear something new too though wearing Pjs all day is very tempting…
*yawns* thankfully the weekend is a matter of hours away, well it starts at 9.30pm for me.Here’s a round up of the week
Mr Simples’s friend was visiting us at the weekend so we decided to have a walk around the Barbican and Hoe after the two of them had visited Plymouth Gin for a tour.We left after lunchtime and by the time we were walking around the Barbican it was roughly 4pm and blimey it was cold!I had my hat on and my coat hood up too and still felt chilly. The sun was setting beautifully over the Plymouth Sound so I had to take a snap.
The World According to Bob
Whilst the boys were at Plymouth Gin, I was sat on a bench down the Barbican watching the world go by and finished reading the last of The World According to Bob. If you’re not aware of James Bowen and Bob,the ginger street cat that transformed his world and I would seriously recommend everyone to read his books, A Street Cat Named Bob and The World According to Bob.It’s a heart warming tale, I received the first book for Christmas last year and requested the second book from my local library.Look at his adorable face,he makes me miss the beautiful ginger Murphy, the cat next door where we used to live
Finally the day that has been so very long awaited rolled around, boy oh boy I was SO glad to see pay day yesterday.Goodbye overdraft, hello finish Christmas shopping and time for a few little treats for me and Mr Simples. It was Advantage Card event at work yesterday and I treated myself to a few bits and a few more Christmas bits so keep your eyes peeled for a post soon.

We’ve been in our house for 6 months now,how time flies! We were fortunate enough that Mr Simples’s parents bought and fitted the laminate flooring downstairs in our house for us. The laminate flooring that we went for was American Pecan from Howdens Professional Fast Fit V Groove Flooring range. We chose American Pecan as we wanted something different and preferred darker coloured woods.
Ever since we’ve been on the lookout for furniture that would compliment the flooring, on a recent trip to Next with my Mum.We spotted the Mode Walnut range of furniture and thought hey this could be the range we’ve been looking for, cue snapping a photo of the Mode Walnut Cube Nest to show Mr Simples later that day. We’d been crying out for a nest of tables as I’m terrible at knocking my drinks over on the floor and our living room “table” was a metal filing box!
Though he liked the photo he wanted to see the furniture in person which is understandable as not everyone wants to make their mind up from a photo. Unlike the last furniture we were renting, most of it had come from Argos. Now I’m not knocking Argos but their Beech range of furniture that we had bought, we had come to loathe.
Fast forward a few weeks later and we both visited our local Next and made our mind up that their Mode Walnut range is the one for us. My mum very generously offered to buy us the nest of tables as an early Christmas present which we gratefully accepted, so yesterday we visited our local Next Home to buy the nest of tables after my Mum put the £85 in my bank for the purchase.
The box stated that the nest of tables should take approximately twenty five minutes to assemble therefore Mr Simples decided to accept this challenge.
Despite the box coming with numbered pieces, clear instructions and fittings.Mr Simples was unfortunately defeated by the twenty five minutes assembly time after placing a piece the wrong way round, clearly the excitement of having a nest of tables at last had got to him!
The smaller table was assembled swiftly despite the hiccup, at 38.5 centimetres high by 38.5 centimetres wide by 40 centimetres deep this made it a perfect sized table to utilise when we have guests around.
The larger table was assembled without a hitch and at 44 centimetres high by 50 centimetres wide by 40 centimetres deep and is perfect for our table lamp to sit on and have plenty of space for drinks, coasters and bits and bobs too.
We think the Mode Walnut Cube Nest looks absolutely brilliant and stylish against our laminate flooring and gorgeous chair. We’ve now got our eye on the Mode Walnut TV Unit and are looking to buy it in the new year so we can get rid of our
lovely horrible Argos Beech TV unit as once we’ve got a new TV unit and painted our living room then the room will be complete and finished, something that we’re both very much looking forward to especially as it’s the room nearest completion.
